Discover Port Douglas

The gateway to Far North Queensland’s World Heritage icons…

The Great Barrier Reef sits off the coast of Port Douglas, perhaps the most exclusive base from which to launch a tour of one of the World’s most significant reef environments. The Great Barrier Reef is World Heritage listed by UNESCO as it contains the world’s largest collection of coral reefs with over 400 types of coral, 1,500 species of fish and 4,000 types of mollusc. It is also habitat to species such as the dugong and the large green turtle. Port Douglas offers many options and tours for your visit to the Great Barrier Reef.

The Daintree Forest in tropical Far North Queensland is one of the largest stretches of rainforest in Australia covering some 1,200 square km. The Daintree is made up largely of tropical rainforests and forms part of UNESCO’s World Heritage listed Wet Tropics area which stretches along the north-east coast of Australia for some 450 km. This biotope offers a particularly extensive and varied array of plants, as well as marsupials and singing birds, along with other rare and endangered animals and plant species. Port Douglas has a number of tour operators specialising in Daintree tours, or you can plan a tour yourself.
